Teina Room

A Calm, Connected Beginning to Learning.
Our Teina Room is a peaceful, nurturing environment with a beautiful rural outlook that helps tamariki settle, feel safe, and enjoy a sense of calm throughout their day. With two full‑time qualified kaiako and a part‑time teacher in training, children build strong, trusting relationships with teachers who are deeply attuned to their individual needs, rhythms, and routines.
Our spacious outdoor area invites exploration, adventure, and the development of gross‑motor confidence, while our indoor environment offers cosy spaces for curiosity, creativity, and meaningful play. Tamariki enjoy regular animal interactions, including visiting our goats and horses, which fosters empathy, responsibility, and a connection to the natural world.
We proudly celebrate special events and take great care in building strong, genuine whānau relationships that honour each child’s identity and home life.
Our daily routine is thoughtfully designed to follow the child’s lead, supporting smooth transitions, uninterrupted play, and opportunities for kaiako to engage in intentional teaching moments that extend learning in rich, meaningful ways.
The Teina Room is a place where children feel held, valued, and inspired—setting the foundation for a joyful learning journey at Aubrey ELC.
Tuakana Room
Where Confident Learners Grow.
Our Tuakana Room is a vibrant, nurturing space designed for our oldest learners to shine. With three full‑time kaiako and one part‑time kaiako, we offer a rich, responsive environment where every child is known, supported, and encouraged to explore their world with confidence.
Inside, children enjoy a spacious, thoughtfully set‑up learning area that inspires creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. Outdoors, our tamariki have access to an engaging natural play space where they climb, create, imagine, and connect with the world around them.
As a play‑based centre with an intentional teaching approach, we weave meaningful learning opportunities into every day. Our 4‑year‑old School Readiness Programme supports children to build the skills they need for a smooth, confident transition to school — fostering independence, early literacy and numeracy, social leadership, and a love of learning.
Daily life in the Tuakana Room is full of adventure. Children enjoy regular art experiences, baking sessions, and hands‑on learning with real tools and materials. Our tamariki head out on walks to collect eggs and feed our friendly goat and horsesbuilding responsibility, empathy, and connection to the land.
Mat times bring us together as a community, encouraging group participation, turn‑taking, and confident communication. A wide range of learning resources are available for children to choose from, empowering them to lead their own learning journey.
Whānau are kept closely connected through weekly room updates and termly learning reports that celebrate each child’s growth, achievements, and emerging interests.
The Tuakana Room is a place where children feel proud, capable, and ready for the next step in their learning journey — supported by kaiako who champion their strengths and ignite their curiosity every day.
